Participation & Installation

NORWAY: What kind of conversations can these boxes start?

More than 500 used boxes collected over many years and stored outdoors, was transformed into a work of art. The public was invited to reflect about the late owner in the property Bakkan and consumption, reuse and environmental awareness. The late owner fetched dog food in these boxes at a local food sale. Inside one of the boxes there was a lid with the text «Best Before September» which touched the core of the art work narrative and which provided an extra layer of meaning and depth. On the surface, the title suggests an idea of decay and change - something that expires. Nevertheless, the subtle irony reveals that the plastic material, which makes up the installation itself, rarely expires. It is a reminder of the enduring presence of plastic in our world and the complex questions that this material raises about consumption, the environment and sustainability. The public was encouraged to write their memories of the late owner and his dogs and seeing him walking through the village to fetch the boxes. The installation became not only a work of art, but also a "Conversation piece" that engaged the viewers to think deeply about our consumption habits and their consequences for the environment.
